7-30-19 Teaching Relationships & Sexuality to Students with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities- No Fee for Member Districts, $35 Fee for Non Member Districts

Speaker: Lindsey Catherine Mullis, MS

Target Audience: Any school staff working with students with Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities

High Leverage Practices:

2. Organize and facilitate effective meetings with professionals and families.

3. Collaborate with families to support student learning and secure needed services.

9. Teach social behaviors.

Description:

Too often students with Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities (IDD) are not thought of as having sexual feelings and wanting to have personal relationships; like any typical person does.  School staff struggle with how to navigate these difficult topics to students with IDD.  This session will be engaging and interactive as participants learn strategies to teach students with IDD the skills needed to develop meaningful relationships, about sexual health, and personal safety.  Participants will learn strategies to collaboratively work with parents on how to talk to their children with IDD on their changing bodies, feelings, and relationships.  EILA hours and CEU’s will be applied for.

EILA: Yes
