3-14 and 3-15-18 Conceptual Building Blocks of Statistical Thinking for Middle School- No Fee

Speaker:  Mark Helton

Target Audience: General and Special Education teachers middle and high school; interventionists grades 6-12, building and district-level administrators

Description:

The Conceptual Building Blocks is a series of modules designed to build a teacher’s capacity to work with students in various settings.  The approach is rooted in a conceptual understanding of key concepts in middle school mathematics.  The objectives are:

  1.      To build teacher knowledge around the foundational concepts in middle school mathematics
  2.     To provide strategies for teaching content and differentiating instruction
  3.     To develop a conceptual understanding of the core components of middle school mathematics

This module uses the middle school Kentucky Academic Standards around Statistics and Probability to focus our work.  We will explore the big ideas of statistical thinking, including levels of statistical thought, components of the statistical process, discover how to use the concreteàsemi-concreteàabstract sequence of instruction, explore misconceptions, and much more!

Note:  This is a two-day module.  Attendance at both days is expected.

There will be follow-up provided by the CKEC Math Consultant (either on-site in the classroom or via SKYPE).  This will be further discussed at the training.
