Conceptual Building Blocks for Middle School (6 sessions) $50 members, closed to non-members

peaker: Mark Helton

Target Audience: Middle school general ed and special ed teachers, interventionists, and instructional coaches.

Description:

The Conceptual Building Blocks is a series of three modules designed to build a teacher’s capacity to work with students in various settings.  The approach is rooted in a conceptual understanding of key concepts in middle school mathematics.  The objectives are:

  1. 1.      To build teacher knowledge around the foundational concepts in middle school mathematics
  2. 2.      To provide strategies for teaching content and differentiating instruction
  3. 3.      To develop a conceptual understanding of the core components of proportional reasoning,                 algebraic thinking, and geometry
  4. 4.      To catalyze change within the school through coaching sessions

Each of the three modules (Proportional Reasoning, Algebraic Thinking, & Geometry) is two days in length.  Attendance at all three modules is required.  Participants who sign up for the training are signing up for all six (6) days.

Oct 28-29 (2015); Jan 27-28 (2016); Feb 10-11 (2016)

In addition to the six days of training, there will be at least one follow up coaching session each semester by the trainer.  This visit will allow participants to dialogue about the particular issues they face in their instruction.
