Speaker: Brenda Addington

Target Audience: SLP and SLPA

Description:

Brenda Addington, MA, CCC-SLP will discuss a variety of ethical issues regarding referral, evaluation and service provision of students who exhibit communication disorders.  A review of the KEG-R and Related Services Guidelines documents will lead into a discussion of judicious application of the KEG-R rating scales and applying the KDE related services guidelines in determining eligibility/need for speech language therapy services.  Discussion of ethical issues pertaining to dismissal/release from services will be a focus within the discussion of the usage of the KEG-R and Related Services Guidelines, as well as determining developmental impacts versus educational impacts.  Additional information will be shared for using appropriate procedures to determine communication disorders in children who are identified as ELL or Limited English Proficiency.     Participants will have the opportunity to bring specific ethical issues for discussion and determination of best practice.  Each participant should have access the KEG-R and the Related Service Document during the training.
