Lessons that Change MS/HS Writers: The Power of Analyzing On Demand Responses 2-3-15

Speaker: Lisa King

Target Audience:

MS/HS teachers responsible for teaching writing instruction, Instructional Coaches, Special Education Teachers.

Description:

This session will focus on the language of the ELA Writing standards, the development of writing from 6-12th grades, qualities of competent and effective writing at each grade level and instructional strategies to scaffold students and move their writing forward.  Participants will analyze a span of on demand writing pieces (all three modes), note progression over time, annotate competent writing using the standards and compare their student writing to concrete examples of common core aligned writing. Participants will work in groups with colleagues to identify strengths and weaknesses of their student writing and set instructional priorities for students.   In order to fully engage in the professional learning, participants must bring samples of student writing.
