“I want to Go Home!” a webinar with Teepa Snow 

“I want to Go Home!” is a webinar designed to help care supporters:

1. better appreciate the meaning behind the words- what the person is really trying to tell you,
2. how to provide better responses that meet the expressed desire, intent, or need, and
3. why what you do can make such a difference in your relationship, the outcome for that incident, and the potential for more issues

During this session, we will discuss common reasons people make these requests that seem unreasonable or a request that is impossible to fulfill. We will also explore where we get confused or lost in our reactions or responses. Finally, we will provide both a dynamic assessment plan to help keep the interaction moving in a better direction and a demonstration and discussion of awareness, knowledge, and skills that the helper can use to change the situation for the better.

By the end of this session attendees will be able to:

1. discuss at least four possible reasons PLwD ask to go home
2. describe at least three brain function changes that cause our common answers to the request to go home to be ineffective or distressing
3. identify simple assessment strategies and techniques to respond to go home by someone living with dementia
