The Importance of Staying Connected while Moving On through Life – Socialization and Holiday Tips

This webinar is focused on helping care partners, friends, family members, community supporters and volunteers remain in more positive relationships with people living with dementia throughout the condition. We will discuss common barriers to continuing existing relationships after dementia symptoms are active and present for one of a pair or group. Next, we will highlight possible reasons and purposes for sustaining or re-establishing relationships when dementia changes what had been previously possible.  Then we will explore at least three approaches to enable both people to engage and find pleasure in spending time together with an emphasis on holidays and special events.

By the end of the sessions, attendees will be able to:

  1. identify at least three reasons relationships cease or dissolve when someone demonstrates symptoms of dementia
  2. describe at least three common barriers to sustaining relationships that previously existed between a PLwD and another person
  3. discuss at least three reasons why re-establishing a relationship with person living with dementia during holidays and special events is valuable or purposeful
