Do you currently or wish to counsel or advise families working with those living with dementia?

This training program is designed for professionals who counsel and advise families working through dementia related challenges. In addition to dementia related awareness and knowledge, learners are taught effective communication techniques, strategies to connect with people in a meaningful way, and methods of providing the right resources at the right time.  Upon completion of the on-line videos and assessments (pre-classroom training) and classroom training, learners have 8 weeks to complete the remaining requirements to achieve certifcation.

Professionals who may benefit from this training include Geriatric Care Managers, Executive Directors, Marketing Directors, Senior Living Advisors, Marriage and Family Therapists, Stephens Ministers and Elder Law Attorneys.

PAC Consultant Certification class size is an intimate, skill-building event.
Thus it is limited to 25 participants in each location.

Qualifications for registration:   

  • Minimum of one year of experience in a health related field
  • Minimum of six months dementia related experience
  • Review of three or more Teepa Snow online videos/YouTubes OR participation in a seminar

COURSE OVERVIEW

1.  PRE-COURSE WORK. The following work must be completed before attending the onsite workshop: 
  • Seven hours of documented, online video training featuring Teepa Snow (access to the training website is provided after acceptance into the training program)
  • Successful completion of self-assessments (quizzes) related to video training
2. ONSITE CLASSROOM WORKSHOP. The following 2-day workshop is conducted onsite:

Day 1: Your Role as a PAC Dementia Care Consultant / 8:30am - 5:00pm. Teepa Snow provides and in-depth look into the consultant role and ways to better support your clients, including: the role of a PAC Consultant, review of the brain and brain change, dealing with grief and loss, core steps to pre-planned consulting, personality traits and learning style preferences – why they matter, coaching and being coached, consulting 'in the moment', recognizing and addressing denial, and care technques such as the Positive Physical Approach and Hand-under-Hand.

Day 2: Practice Using Consultant Tools / 8:00am - 5:00pm. A Lead PAC Mentor and the PAC Mentor team leads this interactive session. Participants apply newly learned skills in role play, using 6 Pieces of the Puzzle, Teepa's GEMS® and cue cards. Real life examples are explored in small group discussions. 

3. POST-WORKSHOP FOLLOW UP. Following the workshop, participants work one-on-one with a PAC Mentor to complete certification:

PAC knows that unless we practice, new knoweldge and skill will not become habits. PAC Consultant follow up is designed to help you drill the skills into habits, and help you learn how to self-assess for future growth. This requires timely follow-up and completion of multiple steps within an eight week period.  Learners become certified after successfully completing all follow up requirements. The individual must demonstrate a solid understanding of material, PAC Care partnering skills, and consulting skills.

  • Seven hours of classroom training led by Teepa Snow

  • Use of PAC Certified Independent Consultant logo, as long as certification is maintained
  • E-certificate of completion

PAC Certified Independent Consultants are encouraged to participate in continuing education through webinars provided by Teepa Snow and/or PAC Mentors, as well as demonstrate continued competence in order to maintain certification.  Annual Re-Certification Fee is $150USD.

Continuing Education credit for this program is awarded by Commonwealth Educational Seminars (CES) for the following professions:

Nurses:  As an American Psychological Association approved provider CES programs are accepted by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Every state Board of Nursing accepts ANCC approved programs except California and Iowa, however CES is also an approved Continuing Education provider by the California Board of Registered Nursing, (Provider Number CEP15567) which is also accepted by the Iowa Board of Nursing. Nurses completing this program receive 14.0 CE hours of credit.

Social Workers: CES, provider #1117, is approved as a Provider for Social Work Continuing Education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) www.aswb.org, through the Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. CES maintains responsibility for the program. ASWB Approval Period: 10/5/15 through 10/5/18. Social Workers should contact their regulatory board to determine course approval. Social Workers participating in this course will receive 14.0 clinical continuing education clock hours.
