Sarah Ward and Kristen Jacobsen are returning to the San Francisco area once again to teach special educators, teachers, SLP’s, parents and professionals hands-on practical strategies and advanced treatment techniques to improve Executive Function skills!

Whether you've seen them before, or this is all new, you're sure to walk away with new ideas and strategies to help you better assist clients, students, or your own children.

Day 1: From School to Home and Back Again: Executive Function Skills Across the Day

This signature presentation on Executive Function Skills will focus on the principles of the award winning 360 Thinking Intervention Program to Improve a student's organization, task visualization, planning, initiation and time management skills.

Day 2: Advanced Knowledge Seminar: Putting it into Practice! Hands-on strategies to practice the implementation of executive function interventions at an advanced level.

This advanced knowledge day course is for the professional who wants to learn more strategies and techniques, have advanced treatment examples, and become more knowledgeable of the scope and sequence to implement executive function strategies. .

We introduce the Informal Executive Function Assessment, a tool to evaluate a student’s ability to visualize the future, to plan, to complete a multistep complex task and to experience and sense the passage of time. This informal assessment, which is only available at this conference, can be used to gain a greater understanding of how a student visualizes the future, breaks down and plans the steps and the time to complete tasks. In turn, this assessment will provide relevant knowledge to individualize and align the specific treatment strategies and to develop IEP goals to meet the different needs of students.

Awarded the Innovative Promising Practices Award of 2015 by the National Organization CHADD the 360 Thinking Program combines concepts that are at the core of executive function skills: situational and intention awareness, visual future thinking, time awareness and task visualization to promote efficient and accurate completion of tasks.

The 360 Thinking program facilitates the development of 6 key skills for students: initiation, transition, planning, time management, self-regulation and meta�cognition. As the steps of a task are envisioned, potential obstacles can be anticipated for students to problem solve and achieve independence.

Presenters

Kristen Jacobsen, MS CCC-SLP

Co-Director at Cognitive Connections LLP, Kristen has co-authored the innovative 360 Thinking approach to facilitate executive functioning skills. Kristen has also co-authored executive function articles and educational products, including the Academic Planner and Tracknets, as well as the Time Tracker Program and Get Ready*Do*Done instructional approach. Kristen provides trainings and workshops for teachers to deliver effective executive function based instruction that can reach all learners in their classrooms.

Sarah Ward, MS CCC-SLP

Co-Director at Cognitive Connections LLP and co-author of the innovative 360 Thinking executive function program, regularly presents nationally and internationally on the topic of executive functions to a variety of professional and parent organizations. In addition to working directly with students in her private practice, she has presented to and consulted with more than 485 public and private schools in Massachusetts and across the United States on how to implement executive function based strategies into the classroom setting.

Who Should Attend

Parents of children who need additional strategies to be organized and effectively manage their time, tasks and materials.

Parents of children who have learning challenges with associated executive function based weaknesses.

Teachers who want to learn how to implement functional strategies into their classrooms which will foster the development of the executive function skills in their students.

Professionals who work with children and adolescents who struggle to initiate, to be flexible in their thinking, to execute and complete tasks successfully and who need to provide their patients and families with practical strategies.

Strategies will be given to address the needs of school aged children. Multiple examples for younger and older children will be given. It is not recommended that children or teens attend.

CEUs/PDPs are not offered for this seminar; however upon request participants will receive a Certificate of Attendance and Self Assessment of Learner Objectives. As a third party source of documentation this will verify the number of hours the certificate holder spent as a learner throughout the activity.
