CWN Presents: A Shareholders Report to Alaskans
Commonwealth North is proud to present our 10th annual program evaluating the performance of Alaska’s assets. As shareholders of "Alaska Inc.", the citizens of Alaska need to be informed about how the assets of their company are performing. The program is especially important as Alaskans debate how best to address the State’s fiscal challenges and work toward a developing a sustainable fiscal plan. We will present a panel of experts to report on the value, income, and prospects of the State of Alaska's key natural resource and financial assets.
Joe Beedle, Chairman of Northrim Bank, and Mead Treadwell, President of Pt Capital, will lead the presentation along with our panel: Jerry Burnett, Deputy Commissioner of Revenue; Daniel M. White, University of Alaska Vice President of Academic Affairs and Research; Jim Beckham, DNR's Deputy Director of the Division of Oil & Gas; and Marty Parsons, DNR's Deputy Director of the Division of Mining, Land, and Water.
During the Alaska statehood debate, it was recognized that the state's population would likely never have the critical mass to finance government services through conventional means employed by other states, primarily per capita taxation. In recognition of the need for Alaska to have means to produce its own revenue, the state was granted 104 million acres of land and mineral rights to significant acreage on federal lands. From this, it was felt Alaska could build and sustain an economy and pay for necessary government services.
This annual program tracks the performance of Alaska's assets - and asset managers - and is an opportunity for you to review and evaluate the annual progress of our common wealth.
