Sue Bagge: International Design
The Basic Principles of Ikebanna
Cost: $75.00 NON MNSFA Member $150.00
10:00 AM to 12:30 PM
The goal of the ikebana artist is to communicate an idea, thought, or feeling through creative form. This requires a complete understanding of the various characteristics of nature, a sense of
imagination, and the technical knowledge to transform these features into artistic form with rhythm, balance and harmony. The higher the level of artistic expression, the greater the encounter between nature, the flower arranger, and those who view the arrangement. Thus, ikebana is an art of personal enrichment and an art to be shared and interpreted by others according to their own individual imagination and experience No previous experience is required. Experienced Ikebana
practitioners at any level are welcome. There is space available. Sue Bagge has studied the Sogetsu School of Ikebana for almost 3 decades and it about to receive her 4th teaching certificate. She has
traveled to Japan several times to attend Ikebana conferences and to study the culture and the gardens. She has developed workshops for the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum that have focused on
Ikebana using plants that are native to our area. She is also a Horticulturist and landscaper known in Minnesota for her garden and floral designs as well as for teaching. She has exhibited all 28
years at The Minneapolis Institute Art In Bloom and has done several of the museum’s Japanese exhibitions
