Super CE Days - April 27th & 28th

Join us for two days of Virtual Free CE, 8 credits, $0 cost powered by our partners: Charles Schwab, Dimensional Fund Advisors, Invesco, Mark Maimon-NJ Lenders, Natixis Investment Managers, Osterweis Capital Management and Wilmington Trust.

Day 1: Thursday, April 27th

1:00-1:50pm     Mark Maimon & John Lawrence: Taking Advantage of the Current Real Estate Market

During this kickoff session, we will explore current real estate market conditions and how to help clients decide if now is a good time for them to buy their first home or upgrade/downsize to a new one.  We’ll also explore the benefits of renovating vs. upgrading to a new home and help explain why home prices are more important than rates.

2:00-2:50pm     Mary Phillips: Pursuing Higher Expected Returns: Research and Design

Dimensional’s approach to systematic investing seeks to add value for our clients at every step of the investment process. In this session, we provide an overview of how insights from research on expected returns and portfolio design help build robust investment solutions and increase reliability of outcomes.
Learning Objectives
1. Review asset pricing principles to understand why securities can have different expected returns.
2. Explore research on return variables and how they serve as building blocks for equity allocations positioned for higher expected returns.
3. Understand why the efficient implementation of a portfolio requires an understanding of the interaction among premiums.
4. Learn how trading in line with natural market volume works to minimize trading costs.

3:00-3:50pm     Jack Janasiewicz: Fight or Flight? Our roadmap for the rest of the year

Discussion will center on key macro risks and opportunities in the market. What are the prospects for recession – hard landing, soft landing or no landing? How do we expect the path of interest rates to unfold over the next 6 months? What are portfolio implications for this outlook including key opportunities and risks?

4:00-4:50pm     Venk Reddy: ESG Isn’t What You Think It Is

Although everyone seems to be talking about ESG, the options are few and far between for investors looking for ESG in fixed income. Then, when you layer on disparate investment strategies in the fixed income space, the funnel narrows substantially. Investors should be armed with the necessary information to make educated decisions when it comes to aligning capital with various ESG-focused mandates. During the presentation, Venk Reddy will provide a behind-the-scenes look at how sustainability factors impact creditworthiness and how you, as a fixed income investor, can make a difference with your capital. He will address how sustainability factors impact creditworthiness in corporate debt, how managers approach the space differently, and what questions investors can ask to get what they are looking for. Learning Objectives:
1. Understand what ESG integration means in fixed income.
2. Appreciate how ESG-focused investing has evolved.
3. Differentiate the approaches managers take when claiming ESG mandates.

Day 2: Friday, April 28th

9:00-9:50am      Mike Townsend Policy and Politics: Watching Washington

Join Schwab’s Washington insider, Michael Townsend, for an entertaining and informative discussion on the intersection between policy, politics, the markets, and the economy. Mike will provide his perspective on a polarized Washington and its implications for the policy agenda. He’ll discuss the latest developments with regard to economic legislation, taxes, retirement savings, regulatory proposals, Fed policy, and other timely issues including the debt ceiling, crypto, and ESG – and what it all means for the markets, financial planners, and individual investors.

10:00-10:50am    Jennifer Fetzer & Sam Franklin: Tax Deferral Strategies for Real Estate

Invesco’s newly launched 1031 Exchange program (Invesco Real Estate Exchange or “IREX”) provides investors the opportunity to potentially exchange, on a tax-deferred basis, an active investment in real estate for a passive investment in an institutionally managed portfolio of high-quality, diversified commercial real estate. Jennifer Fetzer, Client Portfolio Manager at Invesco Real Estate, and Sam Franklin, 1031 Exchange Specialist, will provide an update on the private real estate market and discuss the key benefits and reasons to consider the IREX DST program.

11:00-11:50am    Kevin Flood & Matt Lee: The Delaware Trust Advantage for NY and NJ Residents

Everything you ever wanted to know about Delaware personal trusts (but were afraid to ask). This program will cover some modern and flexible trust administrative features available under Delaware law, income tax planning opportunities, asset protection, and tools to take advantage of the Delaware Advantage by New York and New Jersey Residents.

12:00-12:50pm Cozy Wittman: FAFSA Changes that Will Impact Your Clients

Unbeknownst to most, the COVID relief bill passed at the end of 2020 included some significant changes to the FAFSA. These changes will likely be a huge disruption in the college planning landscape that will require new strategies for your clients. There are distinct winners and losers with the new legislation. These changes sit on top of the massive changes to the college process in the last 2 years, including how colleges award scholarships, ACT testing cancellations and rules for how/when colleges can offer deals to families. This presentation will educate advisors around the impact the changing landscape will have on their clients and provide opportunities to be able to work with multiple generations.
