Controlling Our Professional Destiny Through Advocacy
This event will focus on educating Financial Planning Association (FPA) members of New York State on the Advocacy process. The event will feature four main educational areas: the FPA advocacy process, policymaking in New York State, pertinent state and national Financial Planning regulation, and local advocacy involvement. We will be hearing presentations from the FPA Public Policy Counsel, a New York State Lobbyist, the Northeastern New York Advocacy Director, and a locally engaged FPA member. Important topics will include:
- The difference between Lobbying & Advocacy
- Engaging local representatives to enhance our profession
- How to follow important financial planning bills and regulation
- The creation process of laws that affect our profession and our clients
Learning Objectives:
- Understand the role of FPA Advocacy on a national, state, and local level
- Learn how financial planning policy is made in New York State
- Identify important bills and potential regulation for financial planners
