To a film screening and community conversation around the documentary film series
The New Metropolis

The New Metropolis, an award winning documentary by Andrea Torrice, will be in Pittsburgh on Wednesday October 5th,  from 6-9 pm, at Willow Restaurant.  Join fellow North Boros residents, business owners, community leaders, and public officials to participate in this special screening and community conversation.

America’s “first” suburbs, those suburban communities built next to America’s urban centers, were once the birthplace of the American Dream. Seeking to escape the smokestacks of the central cities, and a housing shortage following World War II, thousands of middle class families flocked to the newly-constructed suburban homes.

The New Metropolis illustrates how many of these original suburbs are now facing crisis: a dwindling tax base, population and business loss, decaying infrastructure, and demographic changes. Lacking federal and state government policies to help reverse these trends, our towns must connect to effect policy, develop advocacy networks and create strategies to achieve reinvestment and revitalization.

Come view this powerful film and engage in a community conversation about the shared challenges that communities of the North Boros face, the strategies that we can deploy to confront and overcome such challenges, and the successes that suburbs around the country have achieved through community collaborations, reinvestment, and advocacy.

The event is free but seating is LIMITED.  All attendees are requested to register so that everyone has a seat!  Please RSVP by  October 3rd, 2011 to Andrea McCormick at amccormick@10000friends.org  (717) 234-6070 or calling Grant Ervin  412.471.3727 x 16 for details.
