AWARD WINNING INDEPENDENT FILM SHOWCASE - BEST OF FAVS 

A vibrant film culture is alive at George Mason University! The Best of FAVS Showcase spotlights award winning films produced by students in Film And Video Studies (FAVS) at GMU from Fiction and Documentary Directing classes and Senior Thesis projects. We are thrilled to be screening these films for our patrons and film buffs at the gallery.

Tickets are $10. (Material not suitable for children under 15.)

Complimentary hors d’oeuvres and soft drinks provided; wine and beer by donation.

Visual Scar directed by Sami Ahmed, 6 min

Kirikoo confronts his mind, which is stuck in a cycle of abuse.

Jihad: A Self-Love Story directed by Sumayya Al-Shingieti, 7:23 min

Sumayya decides to show her struggle with identity in a documentary.  Overwhelmed by circumstances, she enters a surreal state, torn between past and present.

El Sushi Chef directed by Jeremy Carpel, 9:14 min

A short documentary that follows Luis, an immigrant from El Salvador who works as a sushi chef at a very high end well regarded Japanese restaurant. This documentary reveals how and why Luis came to the United States, how he ended up making sushi at such a prestigious restaurant, the struggles he faces as a Latino immigrant, and explore his hopes and dreams for the future.

Two Mormons stumble upon one lonely alcoholic, his frustrated ex-girlfriend, and learn a lot more about their lives than they ever wanted to.

L.A.R.P. directed by Brandon Langford

L.A.R.P. is a short documentary that follows two unique individuals as they take part in live action role-play. They not only participate for entertainment and socializing but also use the game sometimes as means of escape. To fulfill a fantasy, become a hero or to broaden and break barriers within oneself all one needs is imagination and a foam sword.
