Planning    & Understanding and Embracing Artifical Intelligence

March 23 Breakfast Webinar

Artificial intelligence (AI) is an exciting, emerging technology that offers both incredible possibilities, but also potential risk.  What is AI exactly and how can leaders leverage its advantages while guarding against its potential downsides?

The Wisconsin Center for Performance Excellence and the Performance Excellence Network are  pleased to host an online webinar discussion on Thursday, March 23: “Understanding & Embracing Artificial Intelligence.”  The discussion will feature David Nguyen, Senior Fellow and Edson W. Spicer Chair in Innovation & Entrepreneurship at the Technological Leadership Institute at the University of Minnesota.

At its simplest core, the goal of AI is sensemaking: it can help in making decisions; solving complex problems; enhancing lifestyle; and facilitating commerce, education, healthcare.  We’ve all seen and used it: it’s embedded in Siri and Alexa; it’s the engine of certain smart homes and the Internet of Things; it’s behind online shopping experiences (ever wonder how Amazon knows what you want to purchase before you do?!); it’s the brains behind driverless vehicles, is being used to diagnose medical conditions in healthcare, navigate your phone & car GPS systems, provide guidance to robotics, and enhance security (think facial recognition and dual authentication).  And, yes, it’s the engine behind ChatGPT, the new infamous chatbot that came on the scene a few months ago.

David will start the session with a brief overview and history of AI – what it is; what it isn’t; and where he thinks it might be headed.  The majority of the session will be spent in semi-structured interview format (like an Oprah episode!), where David will reflect on questions that audience members have shared in advance as well as a few that he takes in real time from the audience (if you want to provide your input, visit here by March 16!).  In the discussion, we will explore the practical applications of AI (in e-commerce, decision making, education, healthcare, marketing, human resources, and other areas); the risks and concerns that our members may have regarding AI; and some suggestions of how leaders might leverage the benefits and mitigate the risks in their organizations (as well as their personal lives).

This session is Thursday, March 23 from 8:00-9:00 CT (optional networking and mingling 7:45-8:00) using Zoom MEETING. Grab your coffee and breakfast and join us for a rich discussion. Free for PEN/WCPE members; $20 for non-members.

Can’t make it live but interested in the content? Register anyway: all registered attendees get a link to the recording after the session!
