Elul Workshop: A Faith that Includes Doubt - Psalm 27

The Jewish month of Elul is traditionally the time to prepare for the High Holy Days.  It is an invitation into awe, meaning, introspection and transformation.  During this month, our people add Psalm 27 to our regular prayer services.  Psalm 27 is meant to focus us -- body, heart, mind and soul – on our spiritual journey into the New Year.

Psalm 27 is one of the most compelling psalms in Jewish liturgy.  It is a poem of great beauty and also of great theological and psychological profundity.  The psalm of the High Holiday season begins with the words “God is my light and my salvation,” moves to expressions of distress about God’s absence, and ends with a statement of hope. The psalm’s unexpected direction models the maturing of an authentic relationship with God.

Join Rabbi Dan as we explore why this Psalm is central to our High Holy Day preparation.  We will look at the text in an interactive encounter as we ready ourselves for Rosh Hashanah.
