"Personal Protective Equipment in the Pandemic" 1.0 CE

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES:

This presentation will talk about PPE and the New Face of Industrial Hygiene and workplace health and safety reguarding mask and respirators during Covid-19. It will cover impacts to human health from chemical, physical and biological environmental hazards, methods of assessing these hazards, and will provide an introduction to control methodology.   These hazards exist in the environment in workplaces, communities, and in the home, although they are most highly regulated in the workplace.  OSHA standards relating to workplace will be reviewed, followed by a discussion of hazards that are not currently regulated and are current areas of research.  

  • Provide an overview of Industrial Hygiene and environmental health hazards during this time.
  • Review workplace Health and Safety requirements established by OSHA 
  • Provide and update on Masks and Respirator use in Industrial Hygiene during the Covid-19 pandemic.  
  • Discuss current knowledge gaps and areas of future study

ABOUT OUR SPEAKER:

  Dana L. Stahl, MS, CIH 

 Safety & Health Manager, The Seattle Public Library

Dana Stahl is a Certified Industrial Hygienist with more than 20 years experience managing health and safety programs in private industry and the public sector.  She holds a degree in Biology from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Masters Degree in Environmental Health with emphasis in Industrial Hygiene and Toxicology from the University of Washington.  She is currently the Safety and Health Manager for The Seattle Public Library.  She has also held positions managing health and safety programs in the Corporate Safety Department at the Port of Seattle, as the Manager of Health, Safety and Emergency Management at Sound Transit where she coordinated the Agency’s response to the 2009 H1N1 pandemic, and as an Instructor and Content Manager at the Pacific Northwest OSHA Training Center at the University of Washington.  She is a member of several professional groups, including the Governor’s Industrial Safety and Health Conference Public Employer’s panel, the American Industrial Hygiene Association Incident Preparedness and Response Working Group, and served as 2016 President of the Pacific Northwest Section of the American Industrial Hygiene Association.  She has written a book entitled Health and Safety in Emergency Management and Response which will be published by John Wiley and Sons and released in the fall of 2020.
