Join us for our special summer event! Dedicate your morning to learning, and advancing your career as we dive into Infectious Disease: the epidemiology of the recent epidemic and it's evolution of care. Join us for this 3.0 CE Mini-Conference with valuable takeaways for Case Managers, Nurses and Social Workers.

OUR SPEAKERS:

 "The Epidemiology of Covid-19 in the US: Current Status, Ongoing Medical Challenges & Care"

Dr. Rachel Bender Ignacio. Dr. Rachel Bender Ignacio is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and Associate Director of the AIDS Clinical Trials Unit at the University of Washington, and Associate in the Vaccine and Infectious Diseases Division at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.  She earned her MD and MPH in Epidemiology at the University of Washington.  She then trained in Internal Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital and stayed on as an Instructor at Harvard Medical School prior to returning to the University of Washington for Infectious Diseases fellowship, and has subsequently been on faculty since 2015. She is a clinical and translational HIV researcher, with studies evaluating immune responses and co-infections in HIV outcomes, in addition to HIV-associated cancer.  Since March 2020, she has been leading clinical trials on COVID-19 and focusing on the intersections of COVID-19, HIV, and systemic racism.

Learning Objectives: 

  1. Provide an update on the epidemiology of COVID-19 in the US.  What is the current status of the epidemic?
  2. Ways in which COVID-19 illness can create ongoing medical challenges after recovery from the acute illness
  3. Considerations for caring for other medical conditions during the COVID-19 and caring for household members of someone with COVID
  4. Discuss ways in which case managers can provide support or facilitate care coordination for patients and family members impacted by COVID-19

 "Its Never too Early Until It's Too Late to Have the Conversation"Carla Jolley MN, ARNP, ANP-BC, AOCN, ACHPN

Carla Jolley MN, ARNP, ANP-BC, AOCN, ACHPN is a palliative care nurse practitioner and the coordinator of the palliative care consultative service at WhidbeyHealth Medical Center on Whidbey Island. She created and launched the palliative care service over 5 years ago for the continuum of care, with services for inpatient, outpatient clinics and home visits to meet the patient where they were at in their journey with serious illness. She has worked in oncology, home health, and hospice over 33 years and brings a holistic approach to the care of patients and families. She got her BSN from Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland, and MN, as well as Post Masters NP at University of Washington. She has been active at the national level both in the Oncology Nursing Society, and currently the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association serving as co-chair of the Annual Assembly. She has spoken widely on topics of pain and symptom management, palliative care, end of life care, communication, and leadership at the local, regional and national level. 

Learning Objectives: Carla will speak to the opportunities created with COVID19 for advancing end of life planning conversations, the impact of the pandemic on different populations of serious illness, how to care for loved ones at home both with serious illness and for end of life. She will also address how to find your own resilience in the midst of the pandemic and dealing with patients and families.
