Leslie Fox, Healthcare Policy and Advocacy Director, Johnson & Johnson.

Leslie Fox is the Healthcare Policy & Advocacy Director for Johnson & Johnson covering Washington, Oregon and Alaska.   "I work with patient and provider organizations to ensure that the patient/provider relationship is kept in the center of healthcare policy decisions at the State & Federal levels.  I have been in the healthcare space for a long time.  I began in sales of Employee benefits - life health & disability before going over to pharmaceutical sales, sales management and then into the advocacy and policy space.  My work is inspired each day by my oldest daughter who is 23 years old with developmental delays, and I get to work to help others and advocate on their behalf in navigating the ever change healthcare system and field."

 
"Is Patient Choice A Pre-Existing Condition?"
Chuck Bongiovanni MSW, MBA, CSA, CFE
Objectives:
 - To understand what Patient Choice really is
- To gain insight on the legalities and fine lines of Patient Choice
- To understand how to advocate for true Patient Choice
- To make the decision if Patient Choice defies the goals of future healthcare initiatives

Chuck Bongiovanni is widely regarded as a National Post-Acute Medicare Spending Per Beneficiary (MSPB) Measures expert and speaker.  He is a trained Master Level Social Worker and has worked in the acute and post-acute sector for over 25 years.  He is the CEO of CarePatrol Franchise Systems, LLC with over 150 offices located across the nation.  He has been featured in Entrepreneur Magazine and under his leadership, CarePatrol was a recipient of INC Magazine's "Fastest Growing Privately-Held Companies in America" award.  He is the author of The Community Integration Model, An innovative hospital discharge planning model that enhances patient choice while reduces Medicare Spending Per Beneficiary Measures.  The model is currently being used in over 50 hospitals in Florida and 5 other states.

"DOAC's Update Review: New Indications, Reversal Agents"
Debra Laurent, MN, ARNP, ACNP

Objectives: Review the pharmacologic properties, indications and side effects of the DOACs; Discuss the latest indication for use; Identify the reversal agent for each DOAC, including the correct dosage and route of administration and other interventions to control bleeding; Discuss the strategies of holding the DOAC for planned interventions and surgeries

Debra Laurent, MN, ARNP, ACNP is a cardiovascular acute care nurse practitioner affiliated with Swedish Heart & Vascular Institute, where she practices interventional and structural cardiology. In addition, she is also involved in cardiovascular research serving as a sub investigator with multiple cardiovascular projects. She is also affiliated at the University of Washington School of Nursing, Department of Bio Behavioral and Health Care Systems as a Clinic Assistant Professor.  She has given multiple talks and workshops on various cardiovascular topics on local, regional and national levels to a wide audience of nursing and medical providers. Debra earned her BSN at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and MN degree at the University of Washington as a cardiovascular clinical nurse specialist, with a minor in biophysics. A post master's degree was also earned at the University of Washington as an adult nurse practitioner. She is board certified as both an adult and acute care nurse practitioner. She enjoys outdoor activities with family and friends, including hiking, swimming and  skiing, and is a member of the National Ski Patrol at Snoqualmie Summit.

"Mechanical Circulatory Support Today" 

 Shauna Andrus, RN, Mechanical Circulatory Support Coordinator at University of Washington Medical Center

Objectives: Who is a candidate? List Criteria for VAD Candidacy; What can we offer patients today? Name the FDA approved devices most commonly used; Name the top 3 complications of VAD

Shauna Andrus began work at UWMC in 1985 - the year they performed their first heart transplant. She has been fascinated ever since!
Shauna was then chosen to become an Asst Nurse Manager in 1988. This provided her with further experience to work more directly with expanded therapies available to heart patients. She was then asked if she wanted to help with heart, lung transplant donation coordination. 
In 1997 a team of UW staff and physicians traveled to New York to learn about the HeartMate ventricular assist device. She continued to work in the ICU until she was asked to start up a new position as Patient Flow Supervisor. In 2005 she accepted the position of VAD Coordinator to work on a study device - HeartMate II LVAD. Her dream job!

Poster Presentations 1.0 CE
During the Partners in Education Exhibitor Fair, attendees will have the opportunity to earn 1.0 CEs by participation in the poster presentations from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm. It takes approximately 1 hour to visit 6 booths and obtain 6 signatures in order to earn the poster presentation CE.
