Flexing to Communicate with Anyone

Have you ever wondered why it’s so hard to communicate with some people at work? Let’s examine how personality types affect how we communicate. Please join BAAPT and our presenter, Susan Gerke, as she leads us in a fun, interactive, new way of looking at communication through personality type and shows us how we can “flex” our types to communicate more effectively. She will guide us in better understanding the Interaction Styles—four inborn patterns of relating in groups: In-ChargeTM, Behind-the-ScenesTM, Get-Things-GoingTM, and Chart-the-CourseTM.

Susan will lead us in:

  • Exploring the difference between language that is Directing (“Give me your report in the morning”) vs. Informing (“Having your report in the morning would be great.”)
  • Identifying how to use both Directing and Informing language more effectively orally and in writing, including email
  • Exploring Initiating vs. Responding ways of participating in groups and identifying how to improve meeting and/or conference call interactions
  • Discovering how to understand Interaction Style patterns from the “inside out”

Whether you’re a new student of personality type, an MBTI® practitioner, or just have a personal interest in type, you’ll take away from this session a practical approach to understanding the dynamics of Interaction Styles. The exercises Susan will be leading can easily be replicated by someone familiar with teaching differences.

The Type Boot Camp format is designed to provide attendees with a beginning knowledge of type the opportunity to clarify their knowledge of type concepts in an environment where they feel comfortable to ask basic questions. Those with intermediate and advanced type knowledge are encouraged to attend to support the open discussion, validate their understanding of type concepts, and pick up tips for teaching type to others.
