Financial Fluency for Boards and Committees

Who will Benefit?

Board and Committee Members of non-profit organizations and First Nation communities.

Registration Fee:

  • $250 for one day;
  • $425 for both days;
  • Participants may register for one or both days

Financial Fluency - 1 Day: Feburary 22, 2017
9:00 AM - 4:00 PM (lunch included)

 This session provides insight into financial statements and practical ways to use this information to identify the areas of the business that are flourishing and the areas that require improvement.

Topics include:

  • key areas of financial statements that determine if fraud is a factor in the business;
  • line items that determine cash requirements and what budgeting is required; and,
  • areas that will assist in identifying immediate business strategies to increase revenues and decrease expenditures

Participants will be able to understand financial statements and apply basic analysis to better assist them when discussing with their accountants.

 

Audit Preparation - 1/2 day: February 23, 2017
9:00 AM - 12:30 PM (lunch included)

This course provides insight into the roles and responsibilities of parties involved in an audit using an informative, yet light-hearted approach. Participants will gain insight into how to work cohesively with their audit team, what common mistakes to avoid in order to keep your audit team hapy and how the entire audit process is beneficial to the organization.

By the end of the session, participants will be able to understand why the audit takes place, why the audit is important to the organization and how to successfully complete the audit process with ease.

Learning Objectives:

  • the participant will learn specific roles of management and auditors in the audit;
  • the participant will understand the steps all parties need to take in preparation of the audit; and
  • the participant will learn how to get added value from the audit using the Management Letter

 

Information and Risk Management - 1/2 day: February 23, 2017
12:30 PM - 4:00 PM (lunch included)

Participants will be better equipped to perform duties of both upper and lower personnel roles through implementing strategic plans that will allow for job shadowing, buddy-systems and the use of appropriate information storage policies. Guiding principles with information management require an understanding of the key principles in Business Ethics, Codes of Confidentiality, Accountability, Risk Management and Due Diligence. Participants will develop their own operations process diagram based on their specific needs.
