Panel discussion on career, professional and leadership development from the perspectives of both student and professional mentors as well as an IABC Boston Mentor/Mentee Pair from our new Mentorship Program. Moderated by our Director of Professional Development, Dina Wolfman Baker, and featuring networking, refreshments and a Tweetup! #IABCBostonCareer

PANEL BIO’s

  • Alyssa Hammond is a Senior Associate Director of Undergraduate Career Services at Bentley University and the dedicated career advisor for students majoring in Marketing; Information Design and Corporate Communications; Media and Culture; Liberal Studies in Media Arts and Society majors; and pre-Law students. She is also an adjunct professor for the Information Design and Corporate Communications Department at Bentley. Hammond teaches "The Business of Social Media," which has won coverage in U.S. News & World Report (May 2011), BostInno (November 2013), and Her Campus (October, 2011). Boston.com and Campus Career Connection have covered her career services and social media work.
  • Kristina B. Davis is a partner in Deloitte & Touche LLP’s Audit and Enterprise Risk Services practice with 16 years of experience providing operational, compliance and technology-related risk and control services to some of the firm’s largest clients in the financial services industry. In addition to serving clients, Davis is also the financial services industry leader for Deloitte’s national market offering that delivers financial and operational risk transformation services to the firm’s clients.  Recognized for her expertise in professional and leadership development, she has served in leadership roles for the firm’s Women’s Initiative Network (WIN), including leader for the New England practice from 2010-2013. Davis is a Certified Public Accountant and has a BS in Business Administration from Stonehill College.
  • Devin Balkaran is a junior at Bentley University pursuing a major in Marketing with minors in Finance and Law. He is in the student mentoring program with IABC Boston. From a very young age Devin has shown an entrepreneurial spirit and has started three companies since high school. While attending school and interning at VDC Research, he has also found time to serve as the Sales and Marketing Manager for MSV Entertainment and the Brand Management Director for the popular electronic dance music blog Dance Rebels. This summer Devin will be an intern with Hill Holliday in Boston. After graduation he hopes to return home and work either in marketing strategy or at an ad agency in New York.
     
  • Allison Looney is the Internal Communications Manager for The Charles Stark Draper Laboratory, Inc., an independent, private, not-for-profit engineering research and development firm. During more than 20 years with Draper Laboratory she also has worked on community outreach, marketing communications, and media relations. She received her master’s degree in Mass Communication with a concentration in Applied Communication Research from Boston University in 2009. Allison recently was nominated for Draper’s Outstanding Mentor award in recognition of her informal mentoring of a colleague.  She also has recruited and worked with volunteers extensively, which often incorporates a mentoring element.  For 17 years Allison volunteered with Cambridge Public Schools’ KeyPals Program, of which Draper is a corporate partner. She managed the program for a decade, including a career awareness element for the 20 to 30 Draper employees she recruited each year, a number of whom formed long-term informal mentoring pairs.

  • Dina Wolfman Baker (moderator) is IABC Boston’s Director of Professional Development and Director of Marketing and Communication at PCG Public Partnerships LLC (PPL), a subsidiary of Public Consulting Group. Reporting to PPL’s President and serving on its executive committee, Baker develops and oversees the company’s marketing and communication strategy; ongoing efforts in communicating with the media, legislative bodies, the public, clients and consumers; and organizational communication. She has presented on leadership and helped establish programs in leadership, professional development, and mentoring, as well as speaking and conducting workshops on marketing and communication. Baker is active in marketing and communication peer groups and has served on the boards of various organizations and as a mentor to young professionals.
