"Start Strong to Stay Strong: Early Intervention Makes Cents"

Saturday, January 28th

8:30 to 11:30am

William and Ida Friday Center

100 Friday Center Dr., Chapel Hill, NC

Please join us for the 39th Annual Legislative Breakfast on Mental Health to meet members of the NC General Assembly, representatives of LME/MCO's, treatment providers, local elected officials and others from across the state to discuss issues and solutions around early intervention in mental health.

The theme of this year's breakfast will focus on a continuum of care in mental health from birth into adulthood, providing facts about the effectiveness of early interventions for improving a child's trajectory towards adulthood and overall successful outcomes, as well as long-term cost savings. Audience members will also gain insight into the effects of early childhood trauma and how the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) score is used to determine lasting effects of negative life experiences while helping professionals design more effective treatment. Additionally, participants will learn about changes in the delivery system resulting from the State of NC consolidating LME/MCOs across the state and how these changes will affect the continuum of care. There will also be a presentation on "Sharing the Journey..." from a panel with lived experiences in navigating the mental health treatment system, as well as a special remembrance of the late Rep. Paul Luebke (D-Durham), who was a champion for improving the mental health treatment system in NC.
