Time Banks: A Tool for Building                     Caring Communities 

Have you ever heard the phrase “pay it forward”? That, in a nutshell, is the idea behind Time Banks. Individuals share their time, talent and skills, “banking” those hours which can then be “spent” when they make a request for a service later on. In a time bank, EVERYONE’s time and talent are valued equally: an hour of gardening equals an hour of childcare equals an hour of bike repair equals an hour of teaching someone how to knit. The possibilities are endless!  

Time banks create ever-widening circles of giving, foster new friendships and build a more resilient community for everone. Individuals, groups, non-rofits, churches, businesses: they can all become members of a time bank to contribute time, energies, skills, and resources- and gain the same in return!
