2022 WORKSHOP

Research Challenge Bootcamp

Session #2

We are planning for an in-person training experience this year, but if public health requirements change, we will be in contact with you to provide all appropriate information for logging into this training via Zoom should that need arise.

The content covers ISEF Rules & Forms, when to complete each form, and provides participants with an understanding of how to do thorough protocol reviews & provide constructive feedback to students.  We also include information for schools that wish to field their own Scientific Review Committee (SRC)/Institutional Review Board (IRB) in order to be able to review student research protocols for prior approval.

Participants from outside Central NM are more than welcome to attend Bootcamp.  There is only one short section of the training at the end of the day that is specific to the Central NM region.

Participants will engage in small groups and complete activities to apply content learned.  There is also a module within the training that will introduce the relationship of CCSS and NGSS standards to project-based, independent student research/engineering design projects.

The workshop is facilitated by Karen Kinsman and Erin Garcia from the UNM STEM-H Center who have over 30 years of combined experience managing STEM competitions including Research Challenge/Science Fairs.  We also normally have a guest presenter for the Standards-Alignment section when she is available.

This training is open to ANYONE from an ISEF-affiliated "science fair"!  However, all participants will need to consult with their regional fair director to ensure clarity on the rules & deadlines specific to their own regional competition(s).

Please note that this is a FULL DAY workshop!  We will begin covering content promptly at 9:00 am, so please plan to arrive between 8:30-8:45am to get signed in, grab some coffee/breakfast munchies, and get settled.

You must attend the FULL DAY in order to receive a Certificate of Completion for the 6.5 hours of professional development and/or to certify your local SRC/IRB Committee.

There is NO COST for this workshop.

PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED IN ORDER FOR US TO PLAN APPROPRIATELY.

Please let us know at least 48 hours in advance if you are unable to attend.
