COURSE OVERVIEW

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is an evidence-based intervention developed by
W. Miller and S. Rollnick for helping people change. MI guides individuals to take the lead in overcoming the ambivalence that keeps them from making important yet difficult changes in their lives. MI's recognition continues to grow as an important tool for professionals in helping people make difficult life style changes across the health care and mental health arenas in addition to its original use for treatment of addictions.

This 2-day workshop will provide an overview of MI, revisions from the latest 3rd edition of Motivational Interviewing by Miller and Rollnick, teach and demonstrate MI interventions to improve practitioners work with their clients and offers a new conceptualization of the processes of change.

This workshop offers a follow-up to the 2-day Introduction to Motivational Interviewing workshop. It provides the next step to effective implementation of MI strategies and tools in your practice. To learn any new skill requires teaching, demonstration, practice and feedback. This workshop will focus on practicing and strengthening the skills learned in the Introduction to Motivational Interviewing workshop. At the end of this workshop, you will have experienced practicing not only the tools of MI but the person-centered spirit of MI.

The Applied course requires prior attendance at one of our 2-day Introductory workshops (either this series or a prior training).
