(B) Kids Cookin’ in the Library (Janet Reynolds and Kathy Goul)
Looking for ways to encourage your 'tweens (3rd to 6th grade) to spend some time in the library and use technical reading...start a cooking class, group, or club. I have been doing a variety of cooking activities in the library for about ten years. In the old building we were limited to things we could make in the microwave or refrigerator, but we were learning to read technical writing and enjoying the cookbooks at the library. Then we moved to the new building, where we had access to a stove, oven, microwave and space. We have grown because of our partnership with Marias des Cygnes Extension's Family and Nutrition Specialist (who may be able to come with me). We have taught them measurement, proper tools, food preparation, healthy eating from snacks to this year we will be doing a 5 course meal that they will prepare for their family. Want to learn more? You don't have to have a full kitchen, we use electric skillets, microwaves, bbq grills, hot plates and even no bake selections.

11:00 - 11:45 Breakout Session 2
