Not Your Mother’s Book Group! is an all-day workshop that focuses on modern book groups in the Library. In this fun and educational class, you will hone your book discussion skills, learn to design and implement a successful group, become more comfortable with providing readers advisory for discussable materials, improve your presentation skills, discover the secrets of content marketing, and much more!

Presenters:
Lisa Palmer is the Book Group Services Readers Advisor for Mid Continent Public Library. She maintains and coordinates a collection of over 1,000 kits of books that are actively used by a vast variety of libraries, communities. and schools throughout Missouri. Lisa loves suggesting books and is dedicated to providing top-notch readers’ advisory for staff and patrons alike. When not working and obsessing over great books and movies, Lisa supports animal advocacy and attempts to cook delicious meals from the various cookbooks she checks out.
LynnDee Wathen is the assistant manager at the Oak Grove branch of Mid-Continent Public Library. She is currently working on receiving her Masters in Library Science from Kent State University. In her free time, LynnDee loves to share her love of reading through social media platforms such as Instagram and YouTube under the username The Library Lush. She also loves to play with her cat, Gatsby, and cross stitch. She’s also C=chronically obsessed with the musical Hamilton and iced coffee.
Angie Strathman is a Readers’ Advisory Librarian at Woodneath Library Center, the newest branch of Mid-Continent Public Library, where she developed the opening day collection. She loves to read and talk about books almost as much as reading them, which led to her passion for readers’ advisory and helping other readers discover a new favorite book, author, or genre. She has presented on various readers’ advisory topics at MLA and the Celebrate the Book! RA Conference.

MALA Workshop Billing/Refund/Credit Policy:
We prefer all workshops to be prepaid or paid at the door. If you prefer to be billed, please add $5. Full refunds or credits are available for cancellations made a minimum of seven (7) days prior to the workshop date less a $5 administrative fee. You can transfer to another workshop a minimum of seven (7) days prior to the workshop date with no administrative fee. Cancellations made less than seven (7) days prior to the workshop date receive no refund or credit and you or your organization will be billed. No shows are billed to you or your organization.
