Thrills and Chills @ Your Library Webcast

This is a pre-recorded webcast. With our online anytime format, you will immediately receive the link to the webcast, password and the link to the webcast handout upon successful registration. You do not need any special software to view and listen, just a computer!  Since passwords are changed frequently, we suggest viewing the webcast as soon as possible after registering.

Description:

Horror expert and readers’ advisory librarian Becky Spratford will show you how to work with horror readers.  This class is especially geared toward the library worker who is unfamiliar with horror or thinks they cannot help horror patrons since they do not like horror themselves.  Becky will explain the appeal of horror, book talk some of the genre’s most popular authors, present the current trends, and go over the most useful resources. Remember, your horror readers are not monsters, they just like to read about them.

After watching this webcast participants will:

  • Gain an understanding of the appeal of horror to readers
  • Have a list of the most popular and critically acclaimed authors in the genre right now
  • Be able to identify and utilize horror resources
  • Understand the trends in horror

Presenter:

Becky Spratford - Between manning a desk at the Berwyn (IL) Public Library and corrupting the minds of library school students at Dominican University, Becky has published the second edition of her book, "The Readers’ Advisory Guide to Horror" (ALA Editions, 2012) last year.  Becky runs two popular and critically acclaimed blogs, RA for All (raforall.blogspot.com) and RA for All: Horror (raforallhorror.blogspot.com).  She also writes content for EBSCO's NoveList database and is a proud member of The Horror Writers' Association.
