LGBTQ Fiction - A Reader's Advisory Overview

Description:

A once obscure sub-set of literature, LGBTQ fiction continues to grow in popularity, with no sign of ceasing. From romance to coming of age, learn about the subgenres and major authors in LGTBQ fiction. After this session, you will have a greater understanding of the background of the genre, along with a clear view of the future. Upcoming trends and authors, what kind of appeal factors are at play, and important literary awards will all be covered. Learn more about LGBTQ fiction today!  

After watching this webcast, participants will have:

  • A greater understanding of the background of LGBTQ literature, with an overview of classic authors.
  • A definition of what LGBTQ fiction is and its appeal factors to readers.
  • Knowledge of significant and major authors currently popular.
  • An overview of upcoming trends, such as Young Adult and coming of age tales.
  • Further resources, such as books, websites, and literary awards.

Presenter:   Leah White - is a Reader Services Librarian at the Northbrook Public Library in Illinois and a 2012 Library Journal Mover and Shaker. She is a member of the Adult Reading Round Table Steering Committee and the co-chair of the Reference Librarians Association Continuing Education planning committee. Leah graduated from Dominican University with her Master of Library and Information Science in 2008.
