The Brave New World of Genre Fiction Selection

This is a pre-recorded webcast. With our online anytime format, you will immediately receive the link to the webcast, password and the link to the webcast handout upon successful registration. You do not need any special software to view and listen, just a computer!  Since passwords are changed frequently, we suggest viewing the webcast as soon as possible after registering.

Description:

Just like there are hundreds of cable channels, there are thousands of book blogs out there, each serving their own particular niche. The traditional library resources are great for bringing in the next bestsellers, but when it comes to genre fiction, the bloggers are a rich resource that provide both definitions of subgenres and excellent reviews of unique material, particularly eBook only material Genre fiction, notably romance, paranormal and urban fantasy, are areas that are well established in eBooks but that the traditional review media hasn't caught up with yet. The book blogs are already out there. To meet our patrons' needs, we need to be out there too.

Presenter:

Marlene Harris is currently a consultant at Reading Reality, conducting webinars and workshops on eBook adoption and genre fiction, and writing about genre fiction and other library-related topics. She is also a regular book reviewer at such diverse outlets as Library Journal and Book Lovers Inc., in addition to her own blog.  But Marlene is an eBook advocate. Every week she publishes Ebook Review Central, a round-up of reviews in the blogosphere for eBook-only and eBook-mostly fiction. Before becoming a consultant, Marlene held positions in public libraries, academic and as a vendor; serving in such diverse places and positions as Division Directory for Public and Support Services at the Alachua County Library District in Gainesville, Florida, the Division Chief for Technical Services at the Chicago Public Library, as the Head of Technical Services at the University of Alaska Anchorage, and as a Project Manager for two Integrated Library Systems vendors.
