Striking a Balance: Finessing Your Supervisor Skills Webcast

This is a 60 minute pre-recorded webcast. With our online anytime format, you will immediately receive the link to the webcast, password and the link to the webcast handout upon successful registration. You do not need any special software to view and listen, just a computer!  Since passwords are changed frequently, we suggest viewing the webcast as soon as possible after registering.

Description:

Old and new managers and leaders are concerned with projects, budgets, strategic plans, and politics. However, most still have employees who require oversight, coaching, and evaluation of some kind, even if they are expected to operate without direct supervision. How do the basics of supervision, including aligning activities to the strategic plan, setting priorities, and coaching, apply to middle management and the administrative office?

Agenda:  Click here for agenda

The Key Idea:   Make the people who work for you your first priority.

Outcomes:

  • Establish 360-degree evaluations for all employees, up to and including the director.
  • Take complaints about managerial misconduct seriously and act on them in a timely fashion.
  • Make conduct as important as professional and technical skills in evaluating middle and upper management.
  • Establish probationary periods for all promotions, with mentors.
  • Conduct minimally monthly discussions about supervisory challenges with all supervisors – individually or as a group.

Presenter:

Pat Wagner has been a trainer, educator, and consultant for 40 years, having worked with clients in 48 states and Canada. She is a manager and producer at Pattern Research, Inc. Pat likes to find the essence in models of human behavior and organizational design and build effective and engaging formats for learning: face-to-face, in print, and online. She has been a poet, playwright, printer, publisher, and graphic designer, and loves books, gardens, and the arts.
