mHealth: Benefits, Risks and a  Guide for Evaluating Mobile  Health  Apps  Webcast

Description:

The widespread use of smartphones has led many people to utilize mobile health apps to manage wellness and disease.  Although the new technologies offer many potential benefits, they also pose risks to users due to the fact that they are largely unregulated, lacking in security or privacy protections, and are sometimes poorly designed. This presentation examines the promise and pitfalls of mobile health apps and provides guidelines for selecting apps.

• Questions to ask when evaluating the content of mobile health apps
• What to look for when evaluating a mobile health app’s privacy policy

Presenter:

Simone Briand is the Library Director at Ruth R. Cleveland Memorial Library of Cleveland University – Kansas City. She has worked in academic libraries for 24 years, and has spent the last 16 of those years in health science libraries.  Simone earned a Master's Degree in Library Science from the University of Missouri, a Master’s in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from Florida International University, and a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism from the University of Kansas.
