Please join us for our next chapter meeting with 2 hours of NHAP(p) & BRN credits.

A review of current regulations concerning isolation and prevention of disease transmission and effects of isolation.   Doing preparation for survey and challenging a F441 deficiency.   Rapidly emerging issues in infection control will be covered. Global health security - MERS in US will be discussed.

At the end of this 2 hour presentation the participant will be able to:

  1. Discuss the side effects of isolation on an elderly resident. 
  2. Discuss methods of dealing with residents or family members who are uncooperative with isolation procedures. 
  3. List at least 2 things to consider when appealing an F441 deficiency. 
  4. Describe the continuum approach to preventing infection transmission.

Gloria Escalona has been a practicing RN for over 35 years.  She worked in acute care for 19 years in both California and New York State; as a Legal Nurse Consultant for 12 years.  In long term care she has been an aide, charge nurse, supervisor, and spend 5 years as a DSD.  She was a charge nurse on an AIDS unit for 3 years and a community/public health nurse for 5 years.  She served as an Infection Preventionist (IP) in a long term care facility for 5 years and 9 years as an IP with MuirLab.  She is currently an Infection Control Pracitioner at UCSF Medical Center.  Gloria has been a member of the APIC (Association of Practitioners in Infection Control) San Francisco Bay Area chapter since 1999, serving as Chapter Secretary, Chapter Program Director, and is now a General Director.  She is also a doctoral student at CSU - Fresno where she hopes to conduct research on residents of long term facilities.
