Navigating Changes in Your Growing Child

A Parent Enrichment Workshop with Karen Rivers

Significant turning points occur in the life of a child that define behaviors and attitudes bringing wonder and joy to parents, and, at times, creating grave concerns and feelings of bewilderment.

In each 7-year cycle children undergo a soul or spiritual crisis through which adults can help, giving support and wisdom, when we understand the transitions that our children are experiencing.

The first three 7-year cycles and mid-way turning points will be introduced, laying the ground for discussion, Q&A, and concrete tools to navigate these transitional growth periods.

This conversation will help parents of

• 3-year olds learn to read defiance as a sign post for emerging self- awareness, the realization that “I am separate from you.”
• 9-year olds learn to see separation as a sign of an emerging sense of responsibility.
• 12-year olds learn to discern self-consciousness as an indicator of newcapacities of objective perception.
• 16-year olds learn to recognize existential crisis as seeking to “Know Thyself” and the world in order to become a citizen of the world.
