This 5-day course is designed to teach the fundamentals of firearms instruction for both handgun and rifle applications. The goal of the course is to provide modern techniques in handgun and rifle usage and instruction that the officers can bring back to their departments to build improved effectiveness with issued weapon systems.
The course will cover learning principles, lesson plans, public speaking, the SAFE series, fundamentals and elements of shooting, and how to effectively teach others. Skills covered will include loading and unloading, drawing and holstering, ready positions, three types of reloads, malfunction clearance techniques, one-hand shooting with both weapon and reaction hands, transitions from carbine to handgun, positional shooting, weapons maintenance, and equipment selection for both weapon systems.
This will be a small class environment and will include instruction by lecture, demonstration and coaching, as well as live fire drills and a qualification shoot. Officers will be required to conduct teach backs, run the firing line, and give at least one presentation to the group.
