UNDERSTANDING POLICE CANINE BEHAVIOR THROUGH DECOYING
The Saint Paul Police Department Canine Unit is hosting a 2- day course focusing on the important work of decoying. Attendees will develop skills on reading dog behavior while decoying in the environments of police canine work; and building confidence and calmness in the dog through decoying.
Each day begins with a presentation relating to the theory, methods, and practices of decoying. Practical scenarios will occur in the different environments police canines face in daily work.
Attendees will decoy for dogs of the Saint Paul Police Canine Unit, as well as decoying for other attendees and using their own dogs in scenarios.
This course is designed for police canine teams working the street, with 1 to 6 years’ experience. Older teams will still find benefit, especially for handlers expecting to work a second dog or to develop as trainers.
