EVOC INSTRUCTOR COURSE

 

This course is designed to certify the student to instruct emergency vehicle operations (EVOC). Participants will also develop classroom presentation skills by researching and delivering a presentation.

Course objectives include:

  • Basic Vehicle Dynamics
  • Legalities of Emergency and Non-Emergency Driving
  • Guidelines for Conducting a Pursuit and an Emergency Run
  • How to Design a Driving Course to Fit Specific Departmental Training Needs and Demonstrate the Participant's Driving Ability
  • Preparation and Set-Up of Driving Courses
  • Creating Lesson Plans and Providing Instruction in Classes of Varied Lengths in Time
  • How to Provide and Receive Feedback from Instructors and Participants
  • Other Instructor Development Dynamics

Instructor - Retired Officer Terry Erdman (St Paul Police Department):

Terry Erdman is a 29-year veteran of the St. Paul Police Department who was assigned to the Training Unit in the capacity of Firearms/Range Instructor. He was a training officer for over 17 years, instructing police officers of varying rank and experience. Terry has also been specifically requested to speak to civilian and sworn personnel on a multitude of topics. Terry was the lead instructor for the SPPD's Taser and Emergency Vehicle Operations (EVOC) programs. He was a Use of Force Instructor, Firearms Instructor and lead the instruction for the SPPD's FTO courses/curriculum. Terry's knowledge, efforts, and consistent work products are described as "stellar" by his peers and supervisors.

Required Equipment:

  • Close toed footwear 
  • Squad car consistent with the vehicle your agency uses.  Two people can use one squad car.
