Grantmakers In Aging (GIA) is a national membership organization that unites funders with a common dedication to improving the experience of aging. GIA members have a shared recognition that a society that is better for older adults is a society that is better for people of all ages.
Grantmakers Forum of New York worked with GIA for several years on their EngAGEment project to increase funder awareness of the issues of aging and their effect on our communities. Grantmakers In Aging provides its members with a connection to key people, high-quality resources, and state-of-the art ideas about aging and all issues related to aging, to promote and strengthen grantmaking for an aging society.
GIA is now entering a new phase of its work: GIA 2.0. With new staff leadership and a new strategic business plan, GIA is focused on a future in which one in five Americans will be over the age of 65. (NOTE: In New York State by 2020 it will be 18%.) The goal of GIA 2.0 is to seek a dramatic increase in the percentage of philanthropy going to aging by the year 2019.
