Grade Point Resources Presents:

"Students with Asperger's/High-Functioning Autism in the Inclusive Classroom -- A Seminar for Educators, Parents, and Agency Personnel"

 Presenter:  Rebecca Moyes, M.Ed.

Internationally Respected Author, Educator, and Presenter

Students with Asperger's syndrome and high-functioning autism present unique challenges for educators in the classroom. Learn practical, easy-to-implement strategies for teaching social skills, addressing challenging behaviors, and tackling academic skill deficits
in the inclusive classroom from a nationally recognized autism education expert, Rebecca Moyes. Rebecca is a former teacher and she understands your time constraints, as well as the responsibility you have for meeting the needs of other students.  Rebecca is the author of six resource books for educators and parents in the field of autism. She has trained in 42 states. She is a consultant to many families and school districts in Pennsylvania and has helped to craft countless IEP's. Most importantly, she is the parent of a young adult with Asperger's syndrome. She will provide photos and video footage of students with ASD and demonstrate easy-to-replicate strategies that will make this an engaging and highly effective training. Come spend the day with Rebecca and take back to your classroom a wealth of practical information!   (8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.)

Learner Objectives:

1.  Attendees will be able to list key characteristics of learners with autism and Asperger's syndrome that may interfere with social and academic success.

2.  Attendees will be able to list a variety of ways to accommodate reading comprehension deficits, fine motor delays, written expression difficulties, and other academic concerns.

3.  Participants will be able to identify strategies to address sensory disturbances, as well as particular executive function deficits in motivation, attention, behavioral inhibition, planning, and shifting.

3.  Learners will be able to describe the most common reasons why children with ASD have difficult behaviors and implement effective strategies to overcome these hurdles -- No more melt-downs!

4.  Attendees will be able to write meaningful IEP goals and lesson plans to address social skills deficits.
