Speaker Madelyn Robinson
Please join us as Madelyn Robinson, Director of Planning & Economic Development for the Town of Summerville, presents on the Town’s Vision Plan and economic development including current goals and projects.
Madelyn is Director of Planning and Economic Development for the Town of Summerville. In this role, she is primarily responsible for managing the implementation of the Town’s planning and zoning policies as well as working with property owners and developers in the continual development and growth of the Town. Recently, she and fellow staff members are worked with the Lawrence Group, Stantec, LS3P and Development Strategies to prepare a Vision Plan for the Town that was adopted by Town Council in July 2014. Also, along with the Mayor, Council and staff, she is working on the plans for the new Dorchester Hotel, a mixed use redevelopment for the downtown historic district of Summerville.
Before her current role, she has worked with the Pee Dee Regional Council of Governments in Florence, SC; the Town of Summerville; Berkeley County Government; and, Arcadis, Inc., an international engineering and land design company.
She graduated from Francis Marion University with a BA in Political Science in 1994. After graduating with a Master in Public Administration degree from the University of Charleston / University of South Carolina in 2000, she earned the American Institute for Certified Planners (AICP) certification in 2001. In 2009, she earned a Certificate of Achievement from the SC Economic Development School, SC Department of Commerce with the College of Charleston’s Tate Center for Entrepreneurship.
Over the years she has served in leadership positions for DREAM; Sculpture in the South; the SC Community Development Association; served as a Dorchester County Stormwater Study Committee member; as a member of the Planning and Zoning Advisory Committee with the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce; graduated from Leadership Berkeley 2007 with the Berkeley County Chamber of Commerce; and, is a member of the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA); the American Planning Association (APA); and, the SC Downtown Development Association.
She and her husband live in Summerville. Their oldest son recently graduated from Clemson University and will be getting married in June. They’re youngest son, will graduate in May from Ashley Ridge HS and is headed to Clemson in August.
