The California Animal Control Directors Association proudly presents a Southern California Training Opportunity!

Lt. Cesar Perea & Eleasha Gall, CPDT-KA, Director of behavior and training, SPCALA present:  Dog Behavior for Law Enforcement

In the course of a law enforcement officer’s duties, it is not a matter of if dogs will be encountered, but when. In light of this inevitability, it is critical for officers to be correctly trained on how to respond appropriately, effectively, and in the interest of both public and animal safety. During this course, officers will come to understand:

  • how to modify his or her behavior when in close proximity to a dog;

  • how a dog (family pet) perceives law enforcement;

  • how to read dog behavior and dispel common behavioral myths;

  • how to deploy less-lethal force options and tactics.

**AND**

Officer Kim Schumann & Officer Alfred Aguirre, LA County Department of Animal Care and Control present:  Dangerous Dog Investigation and Case Resolution

Dangerous dog incidents have become a more frequent and complicated responsibility of animal control officers.  The proper investigation and resolution of these cases is critical to protecting public safety.  Lead investigators from the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control’s Critical Case Processing Unit will present their successful program and its methods to achieve desired outcomes.  In this session, attendees will learn:

  • Investigating cases and documentation to ensure a successful resolution;

  • Applying local laws to protect public and animal safety;

  • Preparation of a case for hearing or judicial review;
