251 years later... The same glorious sun sets on the same undulating hills that grace the Virginia Countryside where Royal Governor, Lord Francis Fauquier certified the first cultivated wine grapes in 1763. We celebrate his vision, and the great tradition of winegrowing in the Commonwealth with Vintage Piedmont's 2nd Annual Francis Fauquier Tournante, hosted by Barrel Oak Winery, in Delaplane.
Tournantes carry a long tradition from France, where the area winegrowers would gather in celebration and thanks during that brief respite between pruning the vines and the emergence of new growth. We'll begin the celebration with a vineyard procession of member wineries from the Vintage Piedmont, led by area members of the Knights of the Vine, followed by a blessing of the vines officiated by Pastor Kim Ciftci.
Friendships like those that exist between the Vintage Piedmont important and rare... worthy of being honored with a grand feast. And feast, we shall. Following the procession and ceremony ticket holders are invited to a delicious pig roast, BBQ with all the fixings. What feast would be complete without delicious wine? The wineries will each bring selections best suited for the day, the celebration and the fare.
Registration is $60 per person and includes catered buffet meal by Hog Wild BBQ and wine from the Vintage Piedmont Wineries.*
