Evening Lectures are onsite events that take place once a month at The Spiral Foundation / OTA The Koomar Center in Newton, Massachusetts. They are one and half hour presentations geared towards parents, education professionals, and therapists. Evening Lectures are not recorded.

This Evening Lecture is designed to help participants recognize the features of trauma, attachment, and sensory integration concerns, what they have in common, and how they relate to one another. It will also provide participants with specific sensory integration strategies that can used at home to help children and families cope with symptoms.

Learning Objectives
By the end of this course participants will be able to:

  1. Identify the main elements of Developmental Trauma Disorder, attachment difficulties and Sensory Processing Disorder
  2. Name sensory integration strategies that can be used at home to help children, parents and families cope with SPD symptoms

About the speaker: Marsha Raredon is a Licensed and Certified Occupational Therapist and a senior therapist at OTA. She also works at Manville School, a school for children with complex emotional and psychological needs.  In the past she has worked in collaboration with a psychiatric team at Westwood Lodge Hospital.  She has contributed to the book, Current Perspectives and Applications in Neurobiology: Working with Young Persons who are Victims and Perpetrators of Sexual Abuse, discussing sensory integration and trauma.  She specializes in sensory integration and manual therapies and has presented lectures to parents, teachers and health professionals.  For many years Marsha was a consultant at Tufts-Eliot Pearson Children's School, where a rich multi-culture curriculum is complemented by an integrated special needs program.  The interplay between emotional health and sensory processing has long been the focus of her therapy as well as the nature of how our physical and psychological health work together in the context of our environment and culture.
