May 21, 2019 Presbytery Gathering
"Reconciliation"
Dear Sisters and Brother in Christ,
The May presbytery meeting will soon be upon us and it is time to start registering for our gathering. As we continue on our journey of Reconciliation, we turn to the issues of racial reconciliation. On Tuesday, May 21, we will gather at Wauwatosa Presbyterian Church to worship, listen, reflect, and conduct business as is appropriate. Our speaker that day will be Dr. Robin DiAngelo, the author of the book White Fragility. Dr. DiAngelo will talk with us about how white people can find hard conversations about race uncomfortable and work (often unconsciously) to reinstate control and avoid the topic all together. This, unfortunately, runs counter to our call as followers of Christ to engage the hard work of reconciliation. We will also hear how we can work to counter this tendency in ourselves and our broader culture to help us be reconciled to each other as Christ reconciled us to God.
Our agenda for the day will be slightly altered to allow for extra time to hear Dr. DiAngelo’s words. The schedule will be:
3:30 pm - Orientation for 1st time commissioners
3:50 pm - Announcements
4 pm - Business Meeting (Click here for a Welcome to the Presbytery document which will help you to be prepared for the business meeting.)
5 pm - Dinner
5:45 pm - Worship
6:30-8:30 pm - Keynote - Dr. Robin DiAngelo
Please invite your friends, neighbors, and fellow Presbyterians (even if they aren’t going to be voting members) to learn about this important topic in the life of our country and the world and how we as Christians can respond. I encourage you to register early (but not often) as we are expecting much interest in this topic and our speaker.
