Guest Speaker & Preacher:

The Rev. Dr. J. Herbert Nelson

Office of Public Witness, PC(USA)

Dear Members, Commissioners, and Friends of the Presbytery of Milwaukee:

If “idle hands are the devil’s workshop,” a quick glance at the agenda for our November 22, 2014, Presbytery meeting demonstrates that Satan is unemployed in the Presbytery of Milwaukee!  In fact, we have so much to do that we are starting at 9:20 am with “Conversations on GA Amendments.”  Our GA Commissioners will be prepared to answer questions concerning the eight (8) amendments that we will be voting on.

The first action item in the meeting itself will be our discussion and voting on these amendments.  Please check this link to read the nature of these amendments, their rationale, and the “advice from the Advisory Committee on the Constitution.”  Study, pray, and come prepared to discuss, listen, and vote.

We will also be voting on the 2015 budget, learning about and taking action on a proposed community partnership with Common Ground, voting on nominations for a number of positions in the Presbytery, and examining a candidate for ordination, Beth Patton

Because of the quantity of business to accomplish, we have added 15 minutes to the business meeting.  The Keynote Address is now scheduled to begin at 11:25 am.  The Rev. Dr. J. Herbert Nelson will be challenging us with “The Call for Social Justice.”  Lunch will be at 12:15 pm, and worship, prepared and led by our brothers and sisters from Immanuel and from Tippecanoe, will start at 1:15 pm.

It is imperative that all commissioners come prepared, so please, before the meeting, read the Presbytery papers, study the proposed amendments, look at the budget, and pray about the votes you will be asked to take.  As I said to a friend, some meetings can be boring and a waste of time, but our meetings are supposed to be ways that we seek to determine what we are doing for the Kingdom of God, how we are going to do it, and who will be leading us in the work.  These activities should be neither boring nor a waste of time, and they demand our best efforts.

I look forward to seeing you on Saturday, November 22, at 9:20 am as we work together to be God’s people in this portion of Wisconsin.

 Blessings,

Sara Miles, Moderator

Presbytery of Milwaukee
