Our society’s understanding of gender is expanding and so is prevalence of gender nonconforming and trans youth in mental health. As clinicians, it is our responsibility to have a strong understanding of the unique needs of the populations we work with, including gender nonconforming children and trans teens. This workshop intends to increase expansive ideas of gender and provide clinicians will skills and tools to provide competent and specialized care for gender nonforming youth. This workshop will also introduce information about transitioning families. The participant will learn useful assessment, intervention, and treatment tools to best serve this population.

Objective 1: The participant will be challenged to formulate an expansive perspective of gender.

Objective 2: The participant will learn assessment skills and treatment needs unique to gender nonconforming youth populations in order to increase counselor competency in treating clients of this population.

Objective 3: The participant will learn about standards of care and integrating professional considerations into counselor practice.
