Using Sand Tray in a Play Therapy Session: Directive and Non-Directive Approaches 8:45am-12:00pm

This training will be geared for play therapists. The training will provide therapists with a brief history of the Jungian approach to sand tray through Margaret Lowenfeld and Dora Kalff’s approaches.  An explanation of how the sand tray, the sand (medium), and the miniatures impact the therapeutic process will be provided.  Participants will have the opportunity to participate in experiential activities to help them better incorporate what they will be learning. Both directive and non-directive techniques will be shared. The specific techniques that will be shared can be used with individuals, families, and groups as well as children, adolescents, and adults.

Developmentally Appropriate Interventions for Treating Trauma and Attachment Concerns in Young Children 1:15pm-4:30pm

This training is for play therapists or those working towards certification in play therapy. Play Therapy is a developmentally appropriate approach to working with children with attachment and trauma. Play is the language of children and play therapy can be used to come alongside children to help them process and make sense of their environment and circumstances. This training will focus on using directive play therapy interventions with young children (ages 2-10) that have a history of trauma and attachment concerns. One size doesn’t fit all. It is important to choose and consider interventions that best meet the developmental needs of young children within their ‘individual circumstances’. This training will introduce participants to interventions that can be utilized during the assessment process as well as through the course of treatment.
