Children Exposed toDomestic Violence Training

FREE Training

6.0 CEUs

2 out of 3 children are exposed to trauma and violence. In
the past year, over 5 million children were exposed to physical domestic
violence and over 13.5 million have been exposed to physical domestic violence
in their lifetime. The Family Violence Prevention Project’s “Living With
Terror: Children Exposed to Domestic Violence” educates training participants
on the signs, symptoms, risk factors, protective factors, and resources and
referrals for children and families experience domestic violence. The training
is evidence-based and includes diverse training modalities to ensure that all
learning styles are addressed during the training.

Goals/Objectives:


  • Educate audience members on the psychological,
    emotional, social, mental, brain development, and physical impact on children
    exposed to domestic violence. 

  • Inform audience of signs, symptoms, risk
    factors, protective factors of children exposed to domestic violence (including
    a break-down of factors by age group/development).

  • Empower audience members to appropriately
    respond to disclosures of violence and support the survivor by understanding
    the predicament of victims.

  • Connect audience members to resources and
    referrals for domestic violence and children exposed to domestic violence.

Presenter: Kathy King, CASA Manager, ProKids  has been a Guardian ad Litem and CASA Manager for
ProKids serving in the Hamilton County Juvenile Court since 1999.  She serves as Guardian ad Litem as well as supervising Court Appointed Special Advocates on cases in which there are allegations that children are dependent, neglected, or abused.  Prior to working for ProKids, Ms. King served as Program Supervisor and Guardian ad Litem for the Guardian ad Litem Program in North Carolina for several years.  Ms. King is a faculty member of the Ohio Guardian ad Litem Education Program of the Supreme Court of Ohio Judicial College.  In addition, Ms. King is a Credentialed Advocate at the Advanced Level with a Designation of Comprehensive Victim Intervention Specialist through the National Advocate Credentialing Program of NOVA and a Registered Advocate with Senior Standing through the Ohio Advocate Network of OVWA.

Presenter: Theresa Singleton, Director of Protection from Abuse, YWCA of Greater Cincinnati is a long time advocate of women's issues and is actively committed to ensureing their rights and protection in Greater Cincinnati and beyond.  Ms. Signleton earned a BA in Liberal Studies from Wilmington College, and has worked for the YWCA of Greater Cincinnati for twenty-four years.  She holds the position of Director, Protection from Abuse.

Continuing Education                                                                                                                                            Counselors, Social Workers, and Marriage and Family Therapists: The Child Focus, Inc. Training Center is approved through the Ohio Counselor and Social Worker Board. This program is offered for 6.0 clock hours of continuing education for counselors, social workers, and marriage and family therapists. Ohio Revised Code (Section 3319.22) assigns LPDCs the responsibility of reviewing educators’ Professional Development activities as part of their Individual Professional Development Plans (IPDP) and determining if they meet licensure renewal requirements.                                                                                                                                                                         CE educational activities that meet the continuing education requirement for the Ohio Board of Nursing: A certificate of attendance verification will be provided with the CE activity hours. Chapter 4723-14-05 from the law and rules from www.nursing.ohiogov reads: (7) A continuing education activity that has been approved by a board or an agency that regulates a health care profession or related discipline in Ohio or another jurisdiction;
